My Blog:
My Terella is about Norway and the Nordic countries; the significant four seasons, our culture, traditions and habits.
The artist in film, web and graphic design, Charles Ravndal has redesigned my blog and the logo – explaining it like this: “A logo created for RennyBA’s Terella, a blog based in Norway. The symbol’s form was shaped after a ‘terrella’ or Terella (means Little Earth) which is a small magnetised model ball representing the Earth. The wave-like pattern inside shows the spiral movement of the Terella and an abstract letter “R“. While the colours red, white and blue represent the colours found in the Norwegian flag.
What is a Terella?
The Norwegian professor Kristian O. B. Birkeland was inspired by the discovery of X-rays to develop vacuum chambers (glass box) to study the influence of magnets on cathode rays. He noticed that an electron beam directed toward a magnetised terella was guided toward the magnetic poles and produced rings of light around the poles and concluded that the aurora could be produced in a similar way. He developed a theory in which energetic electrons were ejected from sunspots on the solar surface, directed to the Earth, and guided to the Earth’s polar regions by the geomagnetic field where they produced the visible aurora.
We call it the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).
In the picture above you see me beside Birkeland’s Terella – the glass box – at Tromsø Museum in Norway. You can read more about the mystery of a Terella in my earlier post here!
Digital Story about my blog:
I attended a mini seminar at Oslo University College in Digital Story Telling where I made this video:
